REDEARTH EDUCATION Centre ... continued...

We realised that a purpose-built resource centre, centrally located and accessible, would be a good idea. The facilities necessary to provide for the professional development needed by teachers should be there and the day–to-day activities of the centre should make it self financing. REDEARTH would undertake to raise the funds to build it. It should be managed and run by local people.

Plans were drawn according to our specification and the project was enthusiastically endorsed by the District Education Officer. A site has been identified and reserved by the District for this project.

· a training room that can be let as a conference/training facility as part of the CENTRE’s self-financing activities
· a model training nursery for nursery practitioners. It will be a self-financing centre of excellence
· a dedicated IT room with a number of computers with internet access
· a lending facility of books and other resources eg. science equipment
· a kitchen where refreshment and food can be prepared for those using the Centre
· dormitory accommodation for those who have travelled far and require a place to sleep
· adequate toilet and washing facilities
· secure storage for resources
· a staffed office to manage and monitor every aspect of the Centre
