CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) FOR UK TEACHERS

‘It is hard to convey the ‘magic’ to someone who has not been’ Sarah Durston
Class teacher Whitefriars F & M School Harrow

‘The CPD opportunities afforded by this partnership are immense’ Anne Winstrom
Headteacher Whitchurch First School Harrow

‘I think it has given perspective on important things in school and how much I would like the children I work with to extend their thinking and increase their global awareness’ Eleanor Bunyan NQT Whitefriars F & M School.

All the above teachers, funded by the British Council and the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, have visited their linked schools through a Harrow network of six schools, linked to six Masindi schools.

Two of the Whitefriars teachers, Helen Davies and Caroline Holland, visited their linked school in 2006 and returned in 2007 to support the REDEARTH training programme. They planned and delivered two fantastic and fun days of training to a group of Ugandan teachers.

This is such a powerful CPD opportunity. It digs deep into our values and perceptions and is a true learning experience which can impact on personal as well as professional lives. It makes us reaffirm what education should be about. We at REDEARTH are hoping to provide opportunities for UK teachers to assist us with our training programme in the future.

WHAT WOULD THIS MEAN TO ME?

Once our training/resource centre is built in Masindi, we hope to put on a comprehensive training programme for Masindi teachers.

For those UK teachers who are selected to assist in this, it would mean:

· Some pre-visit training
· A visit to a Ugandan school in one of their holidays to gain some contextual understanding.
· A subsequent visit (during a holiday) to deliver training.
